PURPOSE: In today's world there is a need for fiction that conveys a Christian message as an alternative to the fiction of our age that is often atheistic and amoral in nature. This event encourages those who enjoy creative writing to use their skill in a Christian arena.

PROCESS: Each participant will:

  • Write a short story that reflects the current LTC theme.
  • Make the story from 3 – 6 double spaced, typed pages (see "Rules" paragraph 1).
  • Mail the following to the Event Director:
    • Four copies and one cover sheet
    • A stamped postcard with the Church Coordinator's mailing address if receipt confirmation is requested.

THE PACKAGE MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MONDAY, February 25, 2008

The Event Director will:

  • Send confirmation of receipt to the Church Coordinator if a stamped postcard is included.
  • Organize the stories for judging.
  • Return judging and critique sheets to the Pre-Convention Director with all award recommendations.
  • Provide a copy of each story for display at the convention.

RULES:

  • The short story will be typed (NO LARGER THAN SIZE 12 FONT), double spaced, and 3 to 6 pages in length. For the 3 – 6 grade category, handwritten work is admissible if it is legible and neatly presented. If it is handwritten, the length shall be 4 – 6 pages on notebook paper, skipping a line. The Title of the Composition must be on the first page.
  • The story can be any form of fiction, such as a mystery, an action story, a fable, etc., as long as the current LTC theme is reflected. The theme could be reflected throughout the story, in the climax, or in the conclusion, as long as it is clear to the reader that the theme is being taught, or presented in story form.
  • The story will be written in good grammatical style.
  • The story should include appropriate fiction elements such as plot and character development.
  • The story will be FICTION, based on imagination, not fact and not a biography or autobiography.
  • Adult assistance should be essentially verbal. Adults may make verbal suggestions on content and point out editorial corrections on the participant's written work.

SUBMISSION:

  • Typed cover sheet must follow this format:
    Name
    Grade
    Congregation
    Congregation Address
    Congregation Phone Number
    Name of Church Coordinator

  • Essays are to be sent to the Christian Fiction Director at the address listed above.
  • All materials that are submitted for judging become the property of LTC-SW. It is understood that LTC-SW reserves the right to use materials for promotion, instruction, or any other manner deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors.
