Daily Devotional 2008

PURPOSE: This event is designed to encourage spiritual discipline and growth in the participant as they continue to serve the Lord with their talents and gifts. It promotes active commitment and consistency in Prayer, Study, and Journaling in the participant's walk with God.

PROCESS: Each Participant will:

  1. Spend time in prayer, study and journaling prior to convention. Refer to the schedule in the section below.
  2. Send a one-page typed report explaining the personal benefit and growth gained by the participant.
  3. Complete the Reading Record sheet and submit to the local Church Coordinator who will then verify that a journal was kept during the time spent and sign the form.
  4. Mail the following to the Event Director:
    • Reading Record
    • Award Certification Form
    • TWO Copies of the typed report (The journal will not be submitted.)
    • A stamped postcard with the Church Coordinator's mailing address if receipt confirmation is requested.

THE PACKAGE MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MONDAY, February 25, 2008

The Event Director will:

  • Send confirmation of receipt the Church Coordinator if a stamped postcard is included.
  • Provide a list of awards to the Pre-Convention Director

RULES:

  • Participants are to spend 20 minutes reading their Bible each day. The participant must read the Bible for 20 minutes each day for the stated period of time. Each day's reading will be recorded on the Reading Record for verification. (Participants may work with a set study or studies to aid them, just as long as the study takes at least the required 20 minutes.)
  • Participants must spend time in prayer each day and keep a journal of things they pray about. This journal will allow them to observe how the Lord works in their prayer life. (This journal is a private part of the relationship that is developing between the participant and God. Therefore, the journal is private and off-limits to others for reading unless the participant gives them permission. Journal entries and Prayer time may be any length. Journals may be made with computer or by hand scribing, just as long as one is kept for everyday and can be verified by an outside source. This journal will not be submitted.)
  • Participants will complete a 300-word (one page, 12 point font, double spaced) report explaining the personal benefit and growth gained during the time spent in prayer, study and journaling. This report should be completed with as little adult help as possible.
  • Local Church and Program Directors will verify that the Reading Record is filled out with at least one reading per day and will verify that at least one journal entry is made for each day of participation. The adults coordinating this locally are not asked to read the journal, but simply verify that a journal is kept for everyday for the stated period of time.

AWARDS:
There will be three ratings available in each category. Awards will be based on the following scale:

SCHEDULE:

    3-6 GRADE CATEGORY
  • Gold Rating- 42 out of 45 days
  • Silver Rating- 35 out of 38 days
  • Bronze Rating- 21 out of 25 days
    7-12 GRADE CATEGORY
  • Gold Rating- 56 out of 59 days
  • Silver Rating- 42 out of 45 days
  • Bronze Rating- 35 out of 38 days

Failure to submit according to the rules and/or submission guidelines could result in a reduced rating being given.

Participants will be given an engraved plate for the individual's award plaque as appropriate to their achieved rating.
