The Ernie Simmons Award

Ernie Simmons was instrumental in bringing the Leadership Training for Christ program to the southwestern United States. (Please read the "HOW THE LTC SOUTHWEST REGION GOT STARTED" section earlier in this manual.) Literally, hundreds of people have been affected by the actions of this incredible man. It is through the direct results of Ernie Simmons that many, many children and teenagers have had a chance to develop their talents for God and as a result feel more like a contributing member of His church.
In 2003 Ernie Simmons went to be with his Lord. He left a legacy that is an example for all of us to follow. To honor Ernie and all that he has done for the LTC-SW program, the LTC-Southwest region board of directors has created an award in his name. The Ernie Simmons Award has been created as a way of honoring other adults that have also given so much of their time and talents to the LTC-SW program.
The following information should be used as a guideline for nominating adults for the Ernie Simmons Award.
- Any adult that has been actively involved with the LTC-SW program
is eligible to be nominated. Their involvement can have been at the
local congregation level and/or at the regional level.
- Adults, LTC-SW participants, Elders, Deacons, etc may nominate
someone for this award. However, a person may only submit one nomination
form per year.
- The nomination forms should not be interpreted as 'votes'. The
more nomination forms received for a person will give the board more
information to base their decision upon, but the person with the most
nomination forms may not necessarily receive the award.
- The Ernie Simmons Award is to honor those who have gone the extra
mile in serving God and the children within the LTC-SW program.
Therefore, it is possible that the award will not be given out each
year if the board feels that none of the nominees met the intent of
the award.
- Once a person receives the award they should not be re-nominated
for at least 7 years.
- Nominees not receiving the award must be resubmitted each year.
Forms are not carried over.
- The current LTC-Southwest Chairman of the Board is not eligible
to be nominated.
- Submission forms must be postmarked or emailed to the LTC-Southwest
chairman (listed at the top) by January 28, 2008. (Only one form may
be submitted per person per year.)
- During the January LTC-Southwest board meeting all of the nominees
will be presented to the full board. The board will then narrow the
list of nominees down to a maximum of three.
- The current LTC-Southwest Chairman of the Board will make the
final decision. This may involve phone calls, emails, etc to one or
more of the people that submitted nominations. (Do NOT call the
Chairman.)
- The Award winner will receive their award during the Saturday
night Celebration ceremony at the LTC-SW convention.
