LTCSW Shirt Design Contest

Event Director: DeDe Jacques

Purpose: The LTCSW Shirt Design Contest was created to provide an opportunity for youth participants to try their hand at graphic design. Participants are asked to create a design illustrating the LTCSW theme that can be used as a screen printing for the convention shirt. The design that is chosen will give a unique design to the LTCSW shirt that can be worn by youth and adults.

Process: Participants in the LTCSW Shirt Design Contest create an original design and submit it. The submitted designs are evaluated by the LTCSW Board of Directors, who decide upon a winning design, which will be adapted for suitability and practicality as the screen printing for the convention shirts. The winner of the LTCSW Shirt Design Contest will be awarded as cash prize of $75.00 and three free shirts.

LTCSW Shirt Design Contest Rules

Guidelines for Participating in the Shirt Design Contest:

A registered youth participant will create a shirt design that reflects the LTCSW theme of the year and submit it according to guidelines given in these rules.

  • The LTCSW Shirt Design Contest is open to all participants registered for the upcoming annual convention.
  • More than one participant may work on a shirt design submission.
  • Each participant may submit only ONE shirt design submission.
  • Each submission MUST be the ORIGINAL creation of participant(s).
  • Each submission should have the following characteristics that can be easily scanned by the shirt manufacturer.
    1. The back side of the entry must be unmarked.
    2. All entries must either be emailed or sent via postal mail in a mailing tube or flat.
    3. Please do NOT fold the entry or mail it in such a way that it can be crumbled in route.
    4. All entries must be on simple, blank, white 8 1/2 x 11 copy paper. Do NOT use card stock, butcher paper, tracing paper, etc.
    5. The orientation of the artwork must be PORTRAIT.
  • The submission must be accompanied by an entry form with these acknowledgements and disclosures:
    1. Acknowledgement that the artwork is original and does not violate copyrights or trademarks.
    2. Acknowledgement that the artwork becomes the property of LTCSW.
    3. Acknowledgement that the decisions of the LTCSW Board of Directors, including necessary alterations, are final.

Guidelines concerning Art Work:

  • Shirt designs have some boundaries that need to be considered when beginning the design process.
  • The design must be adaptable to youth-sized AND adult-sized shirts.
  • Designs are printed in one or two solid colors on a contrasting colored shirt. Color-shading is not possible.
  • Designs must be submitted in black ink on simple, blank, white 8 1/2 x 11 copy paper that is free of wrinkles or creases. Do NOT use card stock, butcher paper, tracing paper, etc.
  • The design must be SIMPLE and CLEAR. Do not add small designs that would get lost in the final screen print.
  • Designs may be created freehand OR with the use of a graphic design/art computer program.
  • Using clip-art and images found online is discouraged because of copyright issues.
  • Do NOT use photographs.
  • Give thoughtful consideration to the lettering that is a part of the design. Letter and word placement are as much a part of the design as the graphics.
  • Color versions may be submitted WITH the blank ink master to suggest color schemes. Remember that the final screen print will ONLY have one or two colors applied to a contrasting shirt color.
  • The winning entry will be subjected to editing for suitability and practicality.
  • The submitted design MUST be consistent with and clearly communicate the current LTCSW theme.
  • The design will be displayed on the back of the shirt.
  • As you create the design, ask yourself and others: Will my friends and peers wear this shirt to school, church, or other public settings?
  • The final design will not display an artist’s signature. If you submit a design with your signature applied, the signature will be removed before being formatted as a screen print.
