Event Director: Jon Roberts
Purpose: This event promotes the habit of memorizing at least 100 verses from Scripture each year. It encourages memory work as a part of the Bible class program. It promotes the use of quoted Scriptures in lessons and conversations. It promotes the study and memorization of Scriptures as a positive replacement for time now consumed by the telephone, television, and radio.
Process: Each participant will memorize the Scripture verses from the provided list. The church coordinator will coordinate the recitation of memorized passages and submit a record of the participant’s work to the LTCSW Scripture Challenge event director, who will process the submission and assign an award.

Scripture Challenge Rules
Guidelines for Participating in Scripture Challenge:
The memorize the Scripture verses from the provided list. The Scripture verses are provided in 10 groups. Each group contains seven to fourteen verses, in order, to preserve the proper context. These guideline must be followed.
- Verses can only be memorized from the standard list provided below.
- The participant may use any translation.
- Memory work should be quoted according to the chosen texts.
- The participant may use a list of Scriptures during the sittings, but may have no other notes.
- The local church coordinator will specify one or more individuals to listen to participants and verify their accomplishments. He or she must certify that the participant has memorized their verses.
- Note: Our goal is to encourage putting God’s word in our hearts. A participant may become discouraged and want to quit when trying to recite “verbatim”, therefore it is suggested that 3rd – 4th grades be permitted “3 helps” per one group of verses, 5th – 6th grades have “2 helps” per one group of verses, and 7th – 12th grades “1 help” per one group of verses. A “help” is defined as a word or two said to the participant when they are “stuck” while reciting. Again, we want to ENCOURAGE, and not discourage, Scripture memorization.
Award Requirements:
Scripture Challenge is not a judged event. Awards to participants will be given according to the following criteria.
- Gold: 90-100 verses in up to 10 different sittings
- Silver: 8 groups of verses in up to 8 different sittings
- Bronze: 5 groups of verses in up to 5 different sittings
